Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 15, 2026
This policy describes what data Spark (the mobile app and the spark.app web pages) collects, why we collect it, and who else sees it. We try to keep it short and plain.
Who runs Spark
Spark is operated by Ryan Burke (Motif AI). Contact: ryan@motifai.ai.
What we collect
- Account info (only if you sign in): your email address, name, and a hashed password. Account auth is handled by Clerk on our behalf — see "Third parties" below.
- Anonymous device ID: every install gets a random ID so we can sync your bookmarks and price overrides without an account. It is not tied to your name or hardware identifiers.
- Bookmarks & search history: which NEC sections you saved or searched for. Stored locally and, if you're signed in, on our server so they sync across your devices.
- Conduit price overrides: the per-foot prices you enter on the "Your prices" screen. Local-first; synced when signed in.
- Microphone audio (only when you tap the mic button): used for voice search. On iOS we use Apple's on-device speech recognition where possible. Audio is not stored or sent to our servers.
- Photos (only when you use Photo Q&A): the image you choose is sent to the AI provider that answers the question (see below). We don't keep a copy on our servers.
- Crash & error reports (planned): if you opt in via your device settings, anonymous crash data may be sent so we can fix bugs. No message bodies, no personal content.
What we don't collect
- We don't sell your data. Ever.
- We don't use third-party advertising or tracking pixels.
- We don't run analytics on your individual usage patterns.
- We don't ask for location.
Third parties
- Clerk — handles sign-in, sign-up, password reset, and session tokens. Sees your email and password (as a hash). Their privacy policy: clerk.com/legal/privacy.
- OpenAI / Anthropic — when you ask a code question or upload a photo for analysis, your question text (and photo, if applicable) is sent to one of these AI providers to generate an answer. We use them under their no-training-on-your-data API terms.
- Replit — hosts our backend infrastructure. They see traffic to our API but not your account credentials directly.
- Apple / Google — distribute the app through their app stores and may collect their own install/usage metrics under their respective privacy policies.
How long we keep data
Account data lives until you delete your account. Bookmarks and search history persist while the account exists. Anonymous device IDs and their associated local data are removed if you uninstall the app.
Deleting your data
To delete your account and all server-side data associated with it, email ryan@motifai.ai from the address you signed up with. We'll process the request within 14 days and confirm by email.
Children
Spark is a professional reference tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to what we collect or who we share it with, we'll update this page and bump the "last updated" date. For significant changes we'll also notify signed-in users in the app.
